CANTILEVER HOUSE
When houses are situated in a Heritage Overlay, often the strategy is to retain and rejuvenate the street façade, letting it be in the spotlight whilst the new built form to the rear serves as a backdrop.
Our clients had the clear intentions of returning the front original portion of the house to its former heritage glory. There was a somewhat shabby 20 year old extension to the rear, which was demolished.
On the ground floor of the new addition, we added a large open space containing the kitchen, butler’s pantry, dining and living areas, with full height large sliding doors for an expansive view of the large garden. Upstairs houses 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a retreat. To achieve this spatially, we introduced an impressive cantilever. The cantilever also acts as an eave shielding the windows from the evening sun.
We are thankful to work with such passionate clients and bring their dream to life.
